Social Media

How does it help?

The title of this blog post is a little bit misleading. It really is because a lot of people would automatically read the title of this blog post as something having to do with sales. Well, last time I checked, social media doesn’t produce sales. It produces traffic. Don’t confuse the two.

Sales happen when you drive traffic to a page and the page does its job. It turns online traffic or clicks into real dollars in your bank account.

The way to do this, of course, involves saying the right things to the right people paired with the right types of graphics to produce the right range of emotions so people are ready, willing and eager to part with their hard earned dollars.

Regardless of how you phrase it, regardless of how you position it, this is the core reality behind any type of online sale. Whether you are selling books, services, or in this case, turned wood products, the same storyline applies.

If you do not line up your ducks properly and things don’t fall into place, you are going to flat out fail. This is why it’s really important to look at social media as a source of traffic that you need to work on.

I can’t even begin to tell you how many would-be entrepreneurs have been permanently discouraged from making money on the internet because of this simple yet fatal mistake. You can’t assume that people would love your stuff just because you came up with it. You have to make sure that there is traffic for it. In other words, there has to be existing demand.

And the best way to do this is to play with social media like Facebook. Share content and see how many “likes” you get and see how many site clicks you get. Once they go to your website, pay attention to what they’re viewing.

By running this test, either on a completely free and organic basis, or whether you run a paid campaign, it doesn’t really matter. What matters is that you get enough traffic volume so you can get statistically accurate information for you to make a truly informed decision as far as your sales conversion campaigns go.

Let me tell you, turning your Woodturning hobby into a full-time income is not going to be easy. Regardless of what you’ve been led to believe, and regardless of what other people have told you, I am telling you the truth. This is not going to happen overnight.

But the good news is, if you are very systematic and methodical and you know what to look for as far as actual user behavior is concerned, you have a strategic advantage. Because anybody can talk theory. Anybody can talk about the things that should happen. Few are the people who actually look at how things truly pan out and plan accordingly. Be one of those people and you’d be surprised as to how successful you get.

Now, this by no means closes the door on the possibility that some people get lucky. Seriously. Some people do get lucky. They end up doing the right things at the right time to produce the right results.

But unfortunately, hoping to get lucky is not a strategy. It really isn’t. Instead, do a little bit more advanced planning from this point forward so you can make better educated choices. If you make the right choices, then chances are, you would get better results.

These two flow together. There’s really no big mystery behind it. A little bit of advance planning can definitely go a long way as far as your efforts at turning your hobby into a full-time income. It may well happen sooner rather than later if you play your cards right.
